Karachi has seen a 32% drop in serious crimes during the first eight months of 2025. AIG Karachi, Javed Alam Odho, shared this progress during a press conference. He said murder cases decreased by 30%, street crimes by 16%, and robberies by 20%. Vehicle thefts also fell by 9%. He credited the decline to improved policing and strong operations across the city.

According to AIG Odho, police arrested 2,452 suspects in different operations. They also rescued 62 abducted persons safely. During encounters, 611 criminals were arrested, 94 were killed, and 626 were injured. These results show that law enforcement is actively working to control crime. He assured the public that efforts will continue in the coming months.

The Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) also played a key role. It arrested 62 inter-district gangs involved in car theft. Police recovered 23 stolen vehicles during these operations. These crackdowns targeted organised gangs and helped disrupt their networks. Odho emphasized that continued intelligence and strict policing are vital to maintain this progress.

However, despite the overall decline, street crime remains a concern. According to the CPLC report for July 2025, over 3,500 motorcycles and 1,600 mobile phones were snatched. The report also recorded 22 vehicle snatchings and 197 vehicle thefts. One kidnapping for ransom and five extortion cases were reported that month. Moreover, 52 people were killed in gunfire-related incidents.

Earlier, CPLC reported 22,627 crimes in Karachi during the first three months of 2024. During that time, 59 people died while resisting robberies, and over 700 were injured. Nearly 16,000 bikes, 6,102 phones, and 373 cars were snatched or stolen. The report also listed 25 extortion cases and five kidnappings for ransom. These numbers show that while crime is decreasing, challenges still remain.
